FARMER'S MARKET

is among one of my favorite places to go in the summer. Or year-round, really. We don't have seasons in SLO, unlike WA, and unlike the northwest, or even the farmer's markets in LA that I've attended, rather than in the morning, this one takes place in the evening. In addition to fresh produce and flowers, it takes place downtown, and all the streets shut down to cars, and every restaurant and business in town sets up a booth, where you can get everything from barbeque to vegan meals, to Balinese furniture, to Moroccan food. I sounded just like a commercial, but I love love love it.

Tonight we got bruschetta, lentil soup, and a pot of white ambrosia tea at Linnea's. There is a tradition in the summer, that the first Thursday of every month, bikers ride through the streets with the cars, where you can hear them honking for blocks. San Luis Obispo is whimsical, and hundreds of bikers can be seen waiting at the light, some clad speedos and snorkel masks (in honor of shark week, of course), riding everything from cruisers to road bikes to tandems pulling couches in tow cars, boom boxes blaring music, the speakers resting on their shoulders. It's a fun community, for sure.
